Planet Terror is the third and final collaboration between Rodriguez and Tarantino. How that one started, what part Tarantino played, and how that one happened are all most likely never told, but that doesnt detract from the accomplishment of putting two great minds together. Rodriguez is always up for a challenge, and Tarantino has been a master at creating his own worlds, so it was a good pairing. The movie is very loose, but that just goes with the territory. If it were tighter, it might be a bit more boring, but as it is, the two directors seem to be having a blast.

Planet Terror is a silly, enjoyable movie that has a hodgepodge of references from all sorts of films from its twisted and eccentric characters to what is happening in Iraq, and it is all very entertaining. You won’t have any real idea of what the heck is going on, but it is all extremely tongue-in-cheek. Its a fun movie to watch, especially if you are a Rodriguez fan.

Planet Terror is an eclectic, out-of-place mashup of sci-fi paranoia and plenty of gore. That really doesn’t tell you much about it, though. It just seems bizarre. It might be best to look at this as two different movies, and not try to figure out what is going on. When that happens, you might come up with a half-bad movie.

Planet Terror stays true to its title of being a fanboy movie. Director Robert Rodriguez teams up with his close pal Quentin Tarantino to make a movie that pits things like human-sized chicks and giant robots against mutant monsters. It’s the kind of movie that makes you think about the purpose of humanity and what kind of message the filmmakers are trying to send. I don’t think it was a purposeful message at all, but one that seems to be floating through the mind of the filmmakers and people watching. As an homage to the grindhouse and B-movie classics that were the inspiration, Planet Terror was a very entertaining movie, and fans will not be disappointed.
