this plotless third-person shooter is a tribute to the 80s action movies, when the names of the main protagonists were used as weapons. kane and lynch are special agents, hired by the future president of the united states to complete their last mission. when the president is kidnapped by a group called the seven, kane and lynch are there to rescue him. what follows is an unending series of gunfights, that are neither funny, scary or exciting, and that eventually begins to feel more like a test of reflexes than an adventure.

kane and lynch 2: dog days is an action shooter developed by the team responsible for the hitman series and featuring the same lean-and-mean gameplay as the original. the game is set in the near future, where the presidential elections are approaching and the united states is being threatened by an unknown terrorist group known as the seven. players play as liberty prime, an ex-cia agent turned mercenary with an unfortunate past and who is charged with saving the president. liber is joined by lynch, who has recently been released from prison and is on the run from the cia. together they must solve a series of puzzles in order to save the president’s life, while trying to uncover the truth behind the assassination of a congressman and the abduction of the president’s daughter.

the game’s setting is set in the far future, when the united states has declared a military dictatorship and divided itself into several factions. the protagonist is a freelance assassin, who fights for one of the four factions, the seven. players have the option to play as either kane, a mad, highly trained hitman with an attitude problem or lynch, a psychopathic terrorist who is a perfect fit for kane’s personality. players can switch between them whenever they wish, but each character has a number of unique abilities, which make them not only fun to play with, but also vital in completing the game.

the graphics are great, not only because the animation is smooth and realistic but also because of the realistic-looking, detailed environment. the three levels that i played, which are fairly short, are also very detailed and interesting. and although i must admit that i liked the first kane & lynch better, i must also admit that this time there’s almost nothing new in the gameplay. in kane & lynch: dead men, there was a combination of a third-person shooter and a stealth game. there were a few puzzles involved, and the story-driven dialogue was interesting.
as the villain, kane and lynch was followed by a sequel that was as great as it was unwished. and even though the game is three times longer than the original, it’s really not worth your time, as there’s nothing in the gameplay that you haven’t seen before. and you’ll play it in spite of the fact that there are many games that are better.
the third chapter of the kane & lynch trilogy has finally arrived and, i must admit, i’m not exactly sure how i feel about it. i know i liked the first game a lot more than i did the second, but this one feels like an endless shooter – with all the possible exceptions of the third person view and the distinct lack of stealth game-playing. the graphics are just fantastic and the game is great on paper – but then there’s just no challenge, no variety, and, of course, no narrative.
after the events of the first title, kane (lee pace) is hired by a big energy company that’s been overrun by some terrorists. with the help of some unlikely (but very skilled) allies and a sniper rifle, he becomes a gun-for-hire (who happens to be a woman), in a bid to rescue his kidnapped family. the problem is that a lot of people want to get their hands on kane.
