this tool should come with a manual, and that is almost a requirement for a camera of this price, but still. it would be nice to have a scroll-through, touch screen option with a description of all the settings. maybe that is a possibility later on. regardless, my only real gripe with this product is that it should be a bit brighter and larger and have a less reflective screen. the display in low light is a bit tricky to read and it is harder to tell detail on the blacks settings, but for the most part, blackmagic os is extremely easy to navigate.

the camera can also capture still images in raw, apple’s prores, and canon’s stills raw format. as soon as blackmagic’s raw capture, it also saves an adobe dng file for use in post-production software that has a compatible engine. this enables one-to-one colour grading, with the ability to mix and match dng, prores or canon raw files in davinci resolve all the way up to 10.5. so many of my colleagues rave about the flexibility of this camera, but it takes good quality raw files to really make their footage shine. this means you need a quality camera like this one that captures stills as well as video.

the blackmagic camera comes with a battery charger, which is another first for a camera this size and price tag. when you’re out shooting, it is easy to forget to bring a charger, which can then really give you a hassle. the small folding power connector is easy to bring along, and the included usb cable for connecting to your computer is small and compact, too. and of course, there are also plenty of expandable batteries. all in all, the blackmagic camera 6k pro is a solid professional camera that will become a favorite of any documentary filmmaker.
