Mehta wrote his novel Shuvuk in Gujarati in 1960 and based it on his married life.[7][8] He published the first part of this novel in 1963 and completed the novel in 1960.[7] This novel was published in English in 2006, after 50 years of its original publication.[9][10] Mehta started writing his second novel Nak babu ka vacha in 1981.[11] This novel was published in Gujarati by Hindi Prasarak Sangh in 1983.[11] This novel was translated in to English by S. N. Johnson and published in 1983.[12][13] This novel is based his married life and published another novel Vihir bhaiya in 1993. Although Vihir bhaiya was not as popular as the previous novels of Mehta, but after its translation to English, other editions of this novel were published by other publishers and translated to other Indian languages.[3] All of Mehta’s short stories have been translated into English and published.[13]

This chapter is mainly about Padmini. She is searching for her husband Kartar at Chitralekha office for months. While she understood Devdas’s involvement in this matter and knew about his connections with Prabhuji, she still didn’t know about his involvement in Padmabai’s illegal luring business. Padmabai’s luring business is also getting more terrible as time passes. She used prostitutes and their children for money and the number of children she has sacrificed are increasing. Finally, Padmabai, Kartar, Pramod and Kesari known as mahamantri express came to Chitralekha office to give their opinion about Prabhuji. Padmabai explained to them what happened at Prabhuji’s house and all the arrangements. She also said that Kartar is no more and was killed by Prabhuji. Also, she tries to explain the origins of her name and why should anyone kill her because she is getting enough money. She also tried to explain her friend, Jharoba, not joining her luring business so suddenly.

Mehta was born in Mahuva near Bhavnagar, Gujarat on 25 May 1928. He completed his school education from M. N. Highschool in Mahuva.[1] He studied till inter Arts. He married on 10 February 1953 in Matunga, Mumbai.[2] He served as an editor of Gujarati weekly, Chitralekha, from 1958 to 1998.[3][4][5] He died on 3 April 1998 in Mumbai following heart attack.[6]
