In 2011, The Black Cube in collaboration with Aldebaran, Ustwo and Adventure Studio, which were about to be renamed Perfect World, worked on a new 2d adventure game called ASA. The game’s concept would become the inspiration for three full episodes of the series. During this early period, the team also worked on an even larger project, which was used as a springboard for development. The team experienced a heavy turnover of people, and the cancellation of the project created tensions and conflicts within the studio. These ultimately led to the independent development of a smaller project, ASA, which would become a successful series that would continue to evolve. ASA: A Space Adventure goes back to the original game, and its design, which would later inspire the complete series, and which continues to evolve thanks to its community.
ASA: A Space Adventure will put you in the shoes of a space adventurer, who goes undercover to search for clues, visit other planets and try to answer some unanswered questions. The game is a sequel to the 2011: A Space Adventure short film, and the remastered version of the game will allow you to compare the two versions (Windows only). Your mission is to find a way to protect yourself from an organization tracking you down, and to solve a murder mystery that leads to an ancient mystery.
Philip Forté, the main character of ASA, comes from an athletic family. He has been able to do well, but is slightly too obsessive to those around him. Like any independent game developer, he works on his own and his success is based on his own efforts alone. He works as a trader, and uses his own spaceship to explore the universe. At a trade fair in Paris, he meets a woman at the Black Cube booth, and it’s there that he discovers his new career.
ASA is a point and click adventure that was originally developed with Adventure Maker, an independent tool developed by volunteers of Ustwo, to facilitate the development of self-published games with a relatively low budget. Created in 2011 by a solo developer, through the collaboration with Aldebaran, Ustwo and Perfect World (iPad only) and Adventure Studio, whose new name became The Black Cube, it focused on the adventure genre. The collaboration with the third partner was put in place by Ustwo and Aldebaran, which was one of the first to produce tools for independent games. The cooperation with Aldebaran in particular had a big impact on the making of the game,
