Typically, a lamp fixture includes a socket, a lamp, a switch to control the light, and a cover to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance and to protect the lamp. One problem, however, with conventional lamp fixtures is that they are usually too bulky to be used in a basement or an attic.
Another problem with conventional lamp fixtures is that the electrical wiring which provides power to the lamp can be a nuisance in the basement or attic. Because of the weight of the fixture, the electrical wiring must be buried under the floor and then the entire fixture must be lifted back to the surface in order to test the wiring, which is a laborious task.
An additional problem with conventional lamp fixtures is that they are usually constructed such that the lamp is easily removable from the socket. Often, a person does not want to lose the lamp. Also, the lamp can become easily damaged by inadvertently dropping or smashing the fixture.
To overcome these and other problems, the applicant previously developed a lamp fixture which included an extension pole that contained an electrical plug. The extension pole was located within a receptacle which was located in the basement or attic and the lamp was located at the top of the pole.
