i was flabbergasted when this book arrived. and then it blew me away. all the angles and perspective that have been there all the time but now finally in print. it definitely not as artistic and cool as the other ones. it’s just as startling but in a different way. lool cool.
it was quite a treat to see this. i had no idea what to expect and when i opened the package. wow! it seems that this will forever be my favorite book and the most watched video. the illustrations and perspective are simply amazing! it definitely brings up my interest and really makes me think about how to draw people and their expressions. i have been trying to figure out how to break down a face to really capture all the emotion. i wish i could go to germany and see it in person! i know that it will be on display soon at the aspen art museum, aspen, colorado. i can’t wait to go.
i had been waiting for this book for ever. when i first saw it i was speechless. to be honest i thought that he was either going out of his way or he was really bitter. i decided to assume that it was the former. when i finally got my hands on it i started to really appreciate how amazing his craft was.
the only other artist to entertain me as much as he has is a west coast artist named robert edward jones. his black and white work really impressed me. especially since i don’t like working in black and white. i first saw his work a little over a year ago. i loved it so much that i wanted to know more about him. it took me a while to find out more about him and get his work. it took me a while to find his books to buy, even though we have a big book store here. i ended up buying most of his work.
this book is a collected collection of kim jung gis, 2007 to 2010 sketchbooks. it contains a total of about 1000 pages. the book is bound in soft cover with hardback binding. there are about 600 individual sketches inside. the size of these sketches varies from 2.5″ x 7.5″ inches to 11″ x 15″ inches. the sketches are neatly laid out in these sketchbooks. the pages have an overall loose feel to it, hence making it an easy read. this collection was initially published back in 2010 and several of the sketchbook series books were out of stock. during my communication with basheer, he said that he was trying to sell this collection and this was the only book that was of interest to him as it didn’t fit in with any of his publication schedule. he was also of the view that the sketchbook collection will get much attention in the art community and the market.
if you are at all interested in seeing what else kjg can present to the art community, then this is a good buy. in my opinion, the quality is worth the price. but if you’re serious about kjg, then you should also get the 2011 sketchbook, and a book by him called, the way to the light, which is out of print.
if you don’t want to spend so much of your hard-earned money, then i suggest that you also get his other publication, the way to the light, which is a book comprised of edited sketches by kjg that are particularly exceptional. and for the price of this book, you will receive a lot of enjoyment. we have owned the one dated between 2007 and 2010 over the past 6 years. like i’ve said, it is a good value for the money.
