The main focus of the past two weeks has been on the new parallel roughing code. There are still problems- mainly with the circle cuts and the non parallel parts of the edges. I have most of the circle cutting problem worked out and Im pretty close to having the parallel-edges modified to be almost parallel- but not quite. I got some help with this- Scott donated some existing code that does this exact thing (2-sided milling) but it isnt exactly what I needed. An example below of the problem. I spent an hour on one cut- take that one out for now.

So far I have implemented every change I can think of to the parallel roughing code. For the most part its been testing and debugging. The new code works pretty well but it does have some tricky parts. I have been experimenting with parallel milling but not with waterline. Hopefully Ill get some test runs of the waterline finishing done soon.

I updated the Finishing book with instructions for using the new parallel roughing- it does require some real changes to your gcode. Some of the changes are to due to machine geometry changes. I think the biggest change is that there is no more bounding area. The center line is the bounding area and the radius is set to the tool diameter (or whatever is in your startpar cuts. Note that the geometry does need to be millingable in the parallel code. I will update the book later to add a note to that effect. On a 2-side job its not a big deal. On larger jobs that might be critical. For most other jobs it should not be a problem.

I have been slowly fix bugs in the waterline finishing code. Im very close to finishing but the bugs keep cropping up in places. On a really great jobs Ill be able to produce some pictures of the parallel roughing and waterline finishing in action.

I just published version 7.3. I have a new pathfinding function that Ive not been able to test. Ive also added some new g-code commands and fixed a few cosmetic bugs. I also added numerous improvements to pathfinding/slicing that should improve results in most situations. I also added a tool path feature so you can upload and save a tool path in two directions, forward and backward, in one g-code file. I have also added new masking options and the ability to save a mask with the g-code.
Today I released V7.3 and it has the new and improved pathfinding that should produce better results in most situations. There are several performance increases in the new code and there are also several new features.
Im working on a new feature and will release an update very soon. One of the new features is the ability to prepare the g-code using a command line or batch file. This is very convenient if you have users using V7 who want to prepare the g-code at the same time as you do the finishing operations.
I have another public beta version on the meshcam site. It is missing a few features but it is pretty stable. You should be able to use it to finish g-code. If you can try it out. If there are problems let me know and Ill fix them ASAP.
I have a new version available at the meshcam site. I fixed a number of cosmetic bugs and added a new feature to hide/unhide pieces. It also has the new command line pathfinding that should produce better results. The new version is.10.
I have a new version at the meshcam site with the new pathfinding, bug fixes, and cosmetic fixes. There was a small bug that affected the ability to hide parts when you hover over them. Thats been fixed now.
