if you’re looking for a comedy or a drama, you will be disappointed. but there’s some elements of humor in the former. the former is more of a character study and has some interesting themes and ideas brought about by its script. i had a very good time while watching it.

the film mainly focuses on the story of the character played by the actors josh gad and nick offerman. while the satirical aspects of the film are successful, the screenplay doesn’t manage to fully materialise in the film. it’s a good concept, but the film doesn’t feature much of the parody concepts. the film also stands out as an example of an american romantic comedy that actually seems like an american romantic comedy.

the second subplot relating to the character played by ricky gervais is very good. i was entertained by it and felt the emotions portrayed were genuine. the second subplot was inter-woven so well that it was almost impossible to notice. these two characters were almost believable.

this movie is one of the best.
in the year 2016, rana, a timid and docile bihari teenager, is preparing to take her wedding. she goes out on a party trip with her friends and meets a handsome, single bengali man, ashim. the two fall in love, but their families do not give their consent. this leads to a series of flashbacks to rana’s childhood in bangladesh, where she was in love with a boy named ashim. they both fall out with her family and get engaged. rana’s maternal grandmother, the matriarch of the family, pushes her daughter out of the house and ashim and rana elope without the knowledge of their parents. ashim is killed in an accident in dhaka. rana’s family find her and bring her back home in fear of a miscarriage. rana is accused of the death of ashim. she is rescued by her true love when she decides to tell the truth and tells the court and everyone that it was ashim who was driving the car that hit the bike. rana is sent to live with her grandmother, her nephew’s family, and her grandmother’s former husband. within this environment, her grandmother has issues dealing with her granddaughter’s lies. her fiance comes back and tries to force her to marry him after getting his family’s consent. rana’s grandmother objects so she tries to commit suicide.
